Dell Inspiron 15-5579 2-in-1 (P58F / P58F001) — Battery Removal & Installation Guide

This guide walks you through removing and installing the internal battery on the Dell Inspiron 15-5579 2-in-1. Follow the steps carefully to avoid damage.

Important: Power off the laptop, unplug the AC adapter, and disconnect all peripherals before you begin.

Remove the base cover

  1. Close the display and turn the computer over.
  2. Remove the ten screws (M2.5×7) that secure the base cover to the palm rest and keyboard assembly.
  3. Using a plastic scribe, gently pry the base cover off the palm rest and keyboard assembly and lift it away.

Remove the battery

  1. Disconnect the battery cable from the system board by pulling the connector straight out.
  2. Press and hold the power button for 5 seconds to discharge residual power (with the battery still disconnected).
  3. Remove the two screws (M2×3) securing the battery to the palm rest and keyboard assembly.
  4. Lift the battery (with its cable) out of the chassis.

Install the battery

  1. Place the new battery into position, aligning it with the mounting holes.
  2. Reinstall and tighten the two M2×3 screws to secure the battery.
  3. Reconnect the battery cable to the system board; make sure it is fully seated.
  4. Align the base cover and press along the edges to snap it into place.
  5. Reinstall the ten M2.5×7 screws to secure the base cover.

Post-install checks

  • Reconnect the AC adapter and power on the laptop.
  • Verify the battery is detected and charging (Windows battery icon or BIOS “Battery Information” screen).
  • If needed, let the battery charge to 100% and then update any Dell power/battery firmware via Dell Support.
  • Recycle the old battery responsibly according to local regulations.

Note: Operating time will vary with workload and settings. Avoid extreme temperatures (see specs) to prolong battery life.
